Chinese Medicine is a BIPOC/Queer-fronted punk band from Toronto, Canada. Starting as a passion project for frontwoman Juno Hailey, they burst onto the scene from relative obscurity with their debut EP, Die Aspora. Released in 2021, Die Aspora is a hard-hitting, side-splitting, exploration into the realities of living in a society designed to harm you, while exploring the meaning of life and self-actualization. The name itself is a play on the concept of belonging to multiple diasporas. The album was produced by post-hardcore vet, Wade MacNeil of Alexisonfire and engineered by Toronto legend, Ian “Ski’ Romano at Ian’s studio in Welland ON.
Following the release of their EP, the band you know as Chinese Medicine was birthed. Formed by members Juno Hailey (Vocals/Guitar), Andrew Pearson (Guitar), Jack-James Lemaire (Bass) & Stefan Hegerat (Drums). Blending their influences from 80s and modern post-punk, they create a familiar yet refreshing sound that unlocks a primal fury in their listeners. Since breaking onto the scene in 2021 they have built a reputation for their explosive and politically charged live shows. They were listed #3 on CBC Music's “9 2SLGBTQIA+ Canadian musicians to listen to in 2023”. This has led to them opening for international bands such as Spaced & Pink Shift and in 2024 they supported Protest The Hero on their Ontario tour along with Bad Waitress.
They are currently signed to Twin Fang Records and have plans to release a new EP in late 2024
